Language ETC

Language ETC provides affordable, high-quality English language instruction and other basic educational programs to foreign-born adults in the Washington DC metropolitan area through the involvement of volunteer teachers and tutors. Every week approximately 700 adult students attend Language ETC’s daytime, evening, and weekend classes held at Our Lady Queen of the Americas church on California Street. Students are met by over 300 dedicated volunteers, many of them residents of Sheridan-Kalorama, who donate their time and skills to teach, tutor, or help students in other ways. In 2005 and again in 2010, Language ETC was recognized by the Catalogue for Philanthropy as “one of the best run small nonprofit organizations” in the Washington area. It is indeed fitting that in such an international neighborhood, residents contribute so many volunteer hours to a program that helps individuals from over sixty other countries become better integrated into the social fabric of our city.
